Is Kamakura Worth It? 🌊✨ 5 Must-See Spots in One Day: bills Pancakes, Sunset Coast & Slam Dunk Crossing 🚃

One-day pass, endless views — bills pancakes at sunset, the Enoden coastal ride & the iconic Slam Dunk crossing, all in one dreamy trip🌅

Hello everyone~ it’s Hattie 💛 If you caught my last post, you already know I spent the morning half of my Kamakura day doing the suspended monorail ride and exploring the Enoshima sea caves. Now it’s time for the good part — the second half of the day where everything is golden hour, ocean breezes, and honestly iconic photo ops I wasn’t even prepared for. 📸

Whether or not you’ve ever seen Slam Dunk (I haven’t 😂), I promise this part of the trip is going to make you want to hop on a plane immediately. Let’s get into it!

🗺️ First, Let’s Get Your Bearings — A Quick Kamakura Geography Crash Course

Before I dive into the itinerary, here’s a tiny geography lesson that’ll save you so much confusion when you’re planning. I know, I know — bear with me, it’s actually helpful!

We spent the morning starting from Ofuna Station, doing the monorail over to Enoshima Island, and then catching a bus back to Enoshima Station before hopping on the train toward Hase and Kamakura. We got off at Shichigahama Station — and that’s where the second half of the magic begins. ✨

The key thing to understand is that the Enoden Line (short for Enoshima Electric Railway) runs the whole coastal strip. It’s small, it’s charming, it runs right next to the beach, and it is extremely photogenic. Keep that in mind because it shows up in basically every photo you’ll take for the rest of the day 🚃

🥞 Stop 1: bills Shichigahama — The Instagram Dream vs. The August Reality

Okay, so if you’ve done any research on Kamakura, you’ve seen bills. It’s everywhere on travel blogs and Instagram — a gorgeous white building perched near the beach, where you can apparently eat fluffy ricotta pancakes on an open-air terrace with the ocean right in front of you. Sounds perfect, right?

Here’s my honest review: it depends entirely on when you go.

We visited in July/August, and I’m not going to sugarcoat it — sitting on that outdoor terrace in the middle of summer is basically a punishment. Hot, sticky, humid, zero shade. We took one look at the terrace, said absolutely not, and planted ourselves inside where the AC was very much doing the lord’s work 💨

That said, if you go in the fall or spring? The outdoor seats are probably everything the photos promise. I believe it. I just couldn’t live it.

🥞 Ricotta Hotcakes with Fresh Banana & Honeycomb Butter

This is the thing to order — bills’ signature dish, and honestly it delivers. You get three thick, cloud-soft pancakes that taste like someone made them with actual love. They’re sweet but not overwhelming, and the honeycomb butter situation is genuinely dreamy. One heads up though: they are filling. Like, really filling. I’d recommend splitting this with someone or pairing it with something savory so you don’t immediately need a nap after.

🍔 Wagyu Burger with Mustard Seed Cucumber Pickle, Butter Lettuce, Caramelised Onions & Herbed Fries

My kid was hungry (as kids always are, always, forever 😅), so we added the wagyu burger to the order — and I’m so glad we did. Juicy, well-seasoned, clearly made with quality ingredients. The herbed fries were a whole vibe on their own.

📆 How to Reserve:

You can book a table directly through Google Maps, which is super convenient. I’d recommend reserving in advance especially on weekends — this place stays busy!

🌊 Stop 2: The Coastal Walk — Sunset, Trains & Random Cute Cars

We finished dinner around 6pm, which in the summer means the sky was just starting to do its whole thing ✨ And oh, did it deliver.

After leaving bills, we walked along the coastal road that runs parallel to the Enoden line, and I truly cannot explain how beautiful it was. On one side: the ocean. On the other: the little green Enoden train casually passing by every few minutes. The light was golden, the air finally cooled down a little, and every single direction you looked felt like a movie still.

We walked all the way back toward Kamakura High School Station, and along the way I photographed:

🌅 The most ridiculously beautiful sunset

🚗 The most adorable little Japanese vintage cars parked roadside

🚃 The Enoden doing its thing between stations

🚦 Random level crossings that somehow looked straight out of a film set

No curated photo spots needed. The whole walk is the photo spot. That’s just Kamakura for you 🥲

🎬 Stop 3: Kamakura High School Crossing — Yes, It’s That Beautiful

And then we made it. The crossing. The one from Slam Dunk.

Full disclaimer: I have not seen Slam Dunk. I went in knowing basically nothing about the anime except that there’s a famous scene here. And honestly? You do not need to have watched it to feel the magic of this place. I’m serious.

Standing at that crossing as the train slowly rolls through — with the sunset behind it and the ocean in the background — it just hits different. It’s one of those moments where you feel a little something in your chest and you’re not entirely sure why. ❤️ (And then you look around and realize everyone else is having the same little moment, which is kind of sweet.)

When we arrived around 6:30pm, there was still a solid line of people waiting to take photos. Some girls had even dressed up in school uniforms for the full anime pilgrimage experience — the whole scene had this undeniable nostalgic, youthful energy that was contagious even to those of us who didn’t grow up with the show.

📸 Photo Tips for the Crossing

• The Enoden trains run frequently, but not every train is the classic green Kamakura-style car. Be patient and wait for the right one! 🚃

• Best times: Early morning or after 3pm on weekdays to avoid the biggest crowds

• ⚠️ Always stay aware of your surroundings — the tracks are active, and photo safety is real. Please don’t lean out for a shot!

📍 Photo Spots in the Area (Original + Alternatives!)

(Google Map links included in the original post!)

鎌倉高校駅前 写真スポット — The real deal, the official anime scene location, the most popular spot

Near ことぶき屋 Kamakura High School Store — Fewer people, great alternative angles

Shichirigahama Station area — Similar coastal vibes with less chaos

顕証寺 (Kenshoji Temple) area — A hidden gem alternative spot that locals know

Shichirihama Beach (七里ヶ浜海岸) — If you’re lucky, you can even spot Mt. Fuji in the distance! 🗻

🚃 Taking the Enoden Back to Fujisawa — Night Kamakura is Underrated

After our photo session, we headed back to Kamakura High School Station to catch the Enoden toward Fujisawa. Quick heads up if it’s your first time: the station is a little quirky — there’s no obvious gate area, and the ticket booth is kind of tucked to the side near the platform entrance. Don’t panic if you feel lost for a second, just look around and you’ll find it! 😄

The nighttime version of Kamakura is genuinely beautiful in a completely different way from the daytime tourist rush. It gets quiet, a little moody, and there’s something peaceful about the Enoden gliding through the dark coastal streets. If you have the flexibility, I totally recommend staying until it gets dark at least once. ✨

We stayed in Fujisawa overnight — and honestly, it was the perfect home base. We’d come from Atami the day before and were heading back to central Tokyo the next day, so Fujisawa’s central location was clutch. It’s a major station with easy connections to Kamakura, Enoshima, and Tokyo — you really can’t go wrong.

🎫 Kamakura Train Passes — Which One Should You Buy?

No spreadsheets, just the essentials! Here’s what you need to know:

1️⃣ Enoden One-Day Pass “Noriorikun” (のりおりくん)

If you’re planning to hop on and off the Enoden multiple times throughout the day (which you will), this pass is an absolute no-brainer.

• 💴 Price: ¥800 for adults / ¥400 for kids

• 🏪 Where to buy: Any Enoden station ticket machine — super easy!

• 🎁 Bonus: The pass comes with occasional small discounts at select shops near Shichigahama and Hase stations — worth checking when you get there!

2️⃣ Odakyu Enoshima-Kamakura Free Pass

This one is great if you’re coming from the Shinjuku area in Tokyo. It bundles a round-trip Odakyu train ride (Shinjuku ↔ Fujisawa) with unlimited Enoden rides in one ticket.

• 💴 Price: Around ¥1,640 for adults from Shinjuku

• 🏪 Where to buy: Odakyu ticket windows at major stations like Shinjuku

For US travelers flying into Tokyo: You’ll most likely arrive at Narita or Haneda and be staying somewhere in central Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc.), so the Odakyu Free Pass is probably your most cost-effective option for the day trip. If you’re already near the Enoden area, just grab the Noriorikun at the station!

🌟 Hattie’s Kamakura Route — The Lazy Girl Cheat Sheet

⚡ One-Day in Kamakura

Ofuna (Monorail) ➔ Enoshima Island ➔ Shichigahama (bills) ➔ Coastal Walk ➔ Kamakura High School Crossing

🏝️ Two-Day in Kamakura (Highly Recommended!)

• Day 1: Ofuna → Komachi Street → Kotoku-in (Giant Buddha) → bills Pancakes

• Day 2: Enoshima → Kamakura High School Crossing

📒 Read my Enoshima day recap here!

I genuinely wished we had two full days — we had to skip Kotoku-in (the Giant Buddha) because of our packed schedule, and it’s on my list for next time for sure 🙏 But even squeezing it all into one day, Kamakura delivered in a way that’s hard to put into words.

You don’t need to know Slam Dunk. You don’t need to be an anime fan. You just need to show up, sit on the Enoden with the window open, let the ocean breeze mess up your hair a little, and watch the sunset do its thing. That’s it. That’s the whole magic.
